It is with great sorrow, that I am writing to ask why your government
is persecuting its Muslim citizens.
Muslim women have been killed, attacked, imprisoned and denied education
simply for wishing to wear a headscarf. Muslim businessmen have been discriminated
against, public officials and members of the army have been purged from
their posts for being Islamic. Your government claims that it promotes
freedom, yet women who wish to study at university are forced to remove
their Islamic dress or be expelled from the courses they are on.
I am calling on your government to be true to its words, and to end
this barbaric practice of discrimination against women. Further, I request
that you end the persecution of those who profess Islamic beliefs.
I look forward to hearing from you shortly on this matter,
Yours sincerely, |

I am writing to you regarding three of the many journalists imprisoned in Turkey.
Gul Aslan, Huda Kaya and Nureddin Sirin are three journalists still imprisoned for their beliefs. Aslan was arrested in May 1996, when she went to visit her husband, also a prisoner of conscience. They have a three and a half year old daughter. Sirin, is currently serving a 17 year sentence for being a member of an outlawed organisation, despite a lack of any conclusive evidence. Kaya has been severally charged after helping to organise a peaceful demonstartion.
I request your office to make immediate representations to the Turkish authorities to secure the release of these and all prisoners of conscience in Turkey.
I hope to hear from you on this matter,
Yours sincerely, |

Re: Human Rights in Turkey
I am writing to you regarding the deteriorating human rights situation in Turkey.
I would like to ask you for your and your party's stance on Turkey and the European Union. I urge you to campaign against any co-operation between Europe and Turkey, and of course to prevent any attempt to allow Turkey into the EU, until such time as the situation has significantly improved.
In particular we are concerned at the cases of political imprisonment, torture and disappearances, which seem to be common in Turkey. I would like to bring the cases of Gul Aslan to your attention. She is a journalist, and imprisoned in Bandirma prison. She was arrested two and a half years ago when visiting her husband Tamar Aslan, held in the same prison for political reasons. They have a three and a half year old daughter. Both Tamar and Gul are believed to be victims of torture. I would urge you to help make representations about these prisoners, and campaign for their and other political prisoners' release.
I look forward to hearing from you shortly, on these matters.
