[Boycott - Economic - World]

Comment:

Union of Gaza Service Stations sent a strong message of defiance and resilience to Israel by boycotting their fuel. It was a slap in the face for Israel who thought they were in control - deciding how many drops of fuel Palestinians will be allowed each day, how much the Palestinians will starve today - in this exercise of breaking their will to resist occupation, of punishing them for daring to dream of freedom by electing Hamas rather than resigning to slavery with Fatah. Remember these Gazan workers next time you hesitate to boycott Israeli goods - they desperately needed that fuel yet they chose dignity over need and boycotted.

Gaza petrol stations boycott Israeli fuel shipments in protest

China View
1 February 2008

Petrol stations in Gaza on Tuesday refused to receive fuel shipments from Israel except diesel for power plants and the cooking gas.

Mahmoud al-Khozendar, deputy director of the Union of Gaza Service Stations Owners, said the decision was made in a protest against Israeli overt reduction of the fuel supplies needed by Gaza.

He said that most of the petrol stations in Gaza have been closed except those run by individuals who brought fuel over the past five days from Egypt taking chances of tumult at Egypt-Gaza border.

"Israel reduces the fuel shipments to serve less than 10 percent of Gaza's needs," said al-Khozendar.

Israel allowed 50,000 liters of gasoline into Gaza during the past 12 days, while Gaza, in the normal condition, needs 120,000 liters a day, he said.

Diesel is also facing severe shortage in Gaza, where needs 350,000 liters a day but only has a total of 700,000 liters over the past 12 days.

Israel cut off fuel supplies to Gaza to the levels which used to be applied before October, 2007.

During the holy month of Ramadan, as we move towards the Eid, I was going around Muslim shops in Tower Hamlets and elsewhere telling them that although they had collection boxes for the Mosque, although they had religious imagery in their shops, although they were selling dates to the faithful people to break their fast - the dates were made in Israel! They were stained with the blood of the Palestinian people! And Muslim shop keepers were selling them!
