[Other] Free Khalida Jarrar - Palestinian Prisoners Day #FreeOurPrisoners
inminds 17 April 2020
On 31st October 2019, Israeli occupation forces raided Palestinian parliamentarian, Khalida Jarrar's home with over 70 soldiers in 12 military vehicles, at 3am in the morning. They abducted her, and today, 5 months later, she is still caged by the occupation.
She is charged with “holding a position in a prohibited organization". Israel has banned most Palestinian political parties including hers - the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a party she has represented in parliament since 2006.
Palestinian mother of two daughters, Khalida Jarrar, has dedicated her life to defending Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli occupation dungeons. She chairs the Prisoners' Committee of the Parliament and is former executive director of Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association and a member of its board. She is also on the government appointed committee that pushed Israel to be brought in front of the International Criminal Court at the Hague for its crimes against the Palestinian people. It is for these actions, that Israel has targeted Khalida Jarrar.
While imprisoned, she organised educational classes for her fellow women prisoners, especially minor girls preparing for their high school exams.
This most recent arrest comes only eight months after her release from 20 months in Israeli imprisonment without charge or trial under administrative detention after being abducted by occupation forces in 2017.
Administrative detention is a vile form of internment where Palestinians are caged without the formality of a charge, let alone a trial, or even a set length of sentence - people are just locked up indefinitely on the whim of the occupation. Administrative detention orders can be up to 6 months long, and can be renewed indefinitely.. month after month.. year after year. Some Palestinians have been locked up cumulatively for over 10 years without charge or trial.
Since 2000 Israel has issued over 26,000 administrative detention orders against Palestinians. It is a violation of articles 78 and 72 of the Fourth Geneva Convention. In May 2016 the United Nations Committee Against Torture demanded Israel end its practice of AD. Today well over 400 Palestinians, including children, are caged under administrative detention orders.
Over 275 civil society organizations around the world have signed onto an international call for Khalida Jarrar's release.

Featured MP3 Podcast "[Deportation at the airport] We saw the injured [Turkish] men going through.. a lot had a leg cut out of their trousers or an arm cut out of their top. It had been cut out to treat their wounds.. they were covered in blood, blood that had been there for three days, and some of them had wounds that were still bleeding.. What upset me most was seeing the dozen men, one after another, hobbling across the terminal, with a bandaged foot. I couldn't ask them why so many of them had a bandaged foot, I couldn't ask them what had happened, because if they spoke or if any of us spoke to them the Israelis beat the injured person.. We later found out that they had these injuries on the tops of their feet from when the troops came down from the helicopter on the Mavi Marmara, and they came down firing - they had been shot from above. Some of the men that were killed were shot at close range - head and chest, but a dozen of the men who were shot, among 59 people who were shot, they were shot at the tops of their feet - the bullets were coming down.. They weren't given a wheelchair or a pair of crutches, and if any of the other passengers stood up and tried to offer [help].. that person was dragged away and smacked by these Israelis. The Israeli soldiers sat on the floor, laughed and sniggered and made every one of these Turkish men hobble and hop all the way across, some 200 metres, everyone of them, one by one, made to do that purely for the sick amusement of the Israeli soldiers."
