Alert: 6th & 8th Nov - Protest BFI & BAFTA hosting apartheid Israel sponsored film festivalinminds 29th October 2014, www.inminds.com On the heels of Israel's recent genocidal slaughter of Gaza, which according to the UN left 521 Palestinian children dead, Israel is launching the latest chapter of its "brand Israel" project, whereby culture is used to whitewash the war crimes of an apartheid state founded on the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people and occupation of their land; the Israeli government through its London embassy is sponsoring a film festival in the UK - UK Jewish Film Festival. Whilst we welcome independent Jewish film making, we oppose this festival because it has gone out of its way to seek Israeli embassy patronage as was revealed when The Tricycle Theatre volunteered to replace Israeli embassy funding of the festival with its own money, which the JFF rejected revealing the political agenda behind the festival. The opening Gala which the Israeli ambassador is expected to attend is being shamefully hosted by the British Film Institute (BFI) on 6th Nov 2014. This is followed by a gala shamefully hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) on 8th Nov 2014. We picketed last years Israeli embassy sponsored JFF and we will again be picketing it this year. Please join us as we protest outside the BFI on Thursday 6th Nov & outside the BAFTA on Sat 8th Nov. We will demand that both the BFI and BAFTA respect the Palestinian call for a cultural boycott of Israel and stop its complicity in this whitewashing of apartheid. We will give out leaflets to the public and talking to them about boycotting 'brand Israel'. Please join us!
