Palestine Lives 2008 - Film Festival
Our four day festival of Palestinian film and culture aims to celebrate a people dispossessed of their land, their way of life and their foreseeable future. Complementary to our films we have invited a number of speakers both in the afternoons and evenings to lead discussions relating to the films and on a number of themes, particularly the NAKBA, THE CATASTROPHE which befell the Palestinian people 60 years ago. We are also putting on exhibitions of photography and embroidery, a music workshop - for both those who like to sing and those who like to listen, a stall of Palestinian artefacts and Palestinian food.
REEM KELANI music workshop
Reem Kelani began singing when still a child. Her love of blues and jazz developed at an early age and this was soon followed by an increasing interest in, and love of, Arabic music. Reem is a well-established and highly regarded performer on the international stage. She is also renowned for her entertaining workshops.
MUTHANNA AL QADI and NAHIDA IZZAT Exhibitions
The work of the Palestinian photo-journalist Muthanna Al Qadi, some of which was recently shown during our Palestine Lives 2008 festival, will be on show again during our four day film festival. Muthanna’s work is a moving tribute to a people suffering humiliation and despair every day - a yet a people proud and full of hope and courage. We are also exhibiting the work of Palestinian poet and artist Nahida Izzat. Her traditional embroidery, recently displayed in Liverpool’s Anglican cathedral, will be on show during the recital of her poetry.
Tickets at the door: £2.50 for each day which includes food and temporary membership of the WFA film society. There is also an additional £5 charge for the music workshop with Reem Kelani.
