Hares Boys Update : 4th Dec 2013

Salaams,

Today I spoke to the mother of Ali Shamlawi, one of the Hares Boys. She sends her condolences to the family of Palestinian rights activist Veronica Planton who passed away last week.

She has finally managed to see her son Ali in prison and bearing in mind what he is has to endure he is doing well and sends his regards and appreciation to the activists around the world who have not forgotten him and the other Hares Boys.

Ali Shamlawi

New dates for the Israeli occupation military court hearings for the Hares Boys are as follows:

Mohammed Kleib - 10th Dec
Ammar Souf - 11 Dec
Mohammed Suleiman - 15 Dec
Ali Shamlawi - 19 Dec
Tamer Souf - unknown

Reflecting on the endless court dates and imprisonment of her son and the other Hares Boys, already caged now for nearly 9 months with the possibly of facing life sentences, she said "I know that Allah has power over all things, and I also know that we are under occupation, and that the enemy is not fair, but I know that injustice does not last. And I hope that the sun will shine in the end."

Our next protest in solidarity with the Hares Boys is this friday 6th December at 2pm outside G4S HQ in Victoria, London.

G4S - HARES BOYS

On 14th March 2013 in what appears to have been a car accident when a speeding illegal Israeli settler car crashed in to the back of an Israeli truck which had stopped to change a flat tire, on a illegal Jews-only road in the West Bank, resulted in four people being hurt. At the behest of angry settlers, the incident was later presented as an attack by Palestinian stone throwing youth.

The truck drivers earlier testimony that he had stopped due to a flat tire was replaced with the new reason being that he had seen stones by the road, and an accident that nobody saw suddenly became a terror attack with 61 witnesses including the police!

Over the next few days over 50 masked Israeli soldiers with attack dogs stormed the local village of Hares in the early hours of the morning and in waves of violent arrests kidnapped the children of the village. In total 19 children were taken to the infamous G4S secured children's dungeon at Al Jalame and locked up in solitary confinement for up to 2 weeks in filthy windowless 1m by 2m cells with no mattress. The children were violently tortured and sexual threats were made against the female members of their families in order to coerce confessions from the boys.

With the confessions and the new “eye-witness” statements, five of the Hares boys were charged with 25 counts of attempted murder each, even though there were only four people in the car. Apparently the military court had decided that 25 stones were thrown, each with an "intent to kill". The five boys - the "Hares Boys" - Ali Shamlawi, Mohammed Kleib, Mohammed Mehdi Suleiman, Tamer Souf, and Ammar Souf are currently locked up in another G4S secured facility - Megiddo prison where G4S provides the entire central command room.

With no evidence of a crime the military court keeps on postponing the hearing dates for the children. All the October and November military court dates were cancelled and new ones for December (starting next week) issued by the Israeli military to the families of the boys, meanwhile the boys remain caged now for nearly 9 months now. Not that evidence, or lack of it, has any bearing in an Israeli military court - a study conducted by the Israeli NGO 'No Legal Frontiers' over a 12 month period concluded that 100% of Palestinian children brought before the military court are convicted. If the five boys are convicted they will be locked up for over 25 years - five young lives ruined with no evidence of a crime let alone their guilt.

We are demanding the immediate and unconditional release of all the children and hold G4S complicit in Israel's crimes, particularly in the torture of Palestinian children.

Hunger Striker Alaa Hammad

Alaa Hammad is a Palestinian father of six young children - 3 boys and 3 girls. They have not seen their father for 7 years as he rots in an Israeli dungeon after being severely tortured. As his act of resistance in demanding his freedom from an illegal occupation prison he started a hunger strike. Friday 6th December will be his 219th day on hunger strike. We will not forget him on this protest. #FreeAlaaHammad

Remembering Palestinian Rights Activist Veronica Planton

We dedicate this protest to our dear sister Veronica Planton, a devoted campaigner for the Palestinian cause, who passed away last week after becoming very ill in the spring.

Despite suffering from severe asthma and always being breathless she passionately stood up for Palestinian rights. She regularly attended protests outside the Israeli settler store Ahava untill it finally closed down, then she joined protests outside the Tower of London in support of the Samouni family of Gaza whose children amongst others were massacred by the Givati Brigade of the Israeli army which is funded by the Steinmetz diamond company whose diamond was on display in the Tower of London. It was part of the Boycott Israeli Blood Diamonds campaign.

The children were especially close to her heart and she ran a project to send teddy bears to the children of Gaza. After Israel's brutal attack on Gaza, Veronica would carry a blooded doll at protests in remembrance of the murdered children of Gaza. She also helped stage a theatrical performance for Gaza called "Love Letters to Gaza".

Rest in peace, our dear sister who showed us that even a debilitating illness cannot stop a person who is determined to fight for justice.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un - "Surely we belong to Allah and to Him shall we return"

We will, inshAllah, be tweeting live (hash tags #FreeHaresBoys #G4S ) from the protest with live photos being uploaded to our twitter and facebook page. So if you can't join us on the day, please help us by sharing the photos as they get uploaded.

PLEASE HELP RAISE MONEY FOR THE HARES BOYS

Please help raise money for the Hares Boys - five Palestinian children abducted from their homes in the village of Hares and caged in a hole in the ground and tortured until false confessions were extracted for stone throwing and are now facing possible life sentences. The aim is to raise 2,000 Euros in 80 days to help all the 5 families to deal with the financial burden associated with having their children imprisoned. The children have already spent 8 months in an Israeli dungeon.

Israel is the only country in the world that charges prisoners for their imprisonment. They have to buy food, soap, toothpaste, and everything else for highly inflated prices in the prison shop, because the Apartheid state does not provide for the people it incarcerates. Not only are such policies designed to break the spirit of the imprisoned and their families – they also intend to ruin them financially. Its costs over 125 euros per month to provide for one child's basic needs in prison.

The way the fundraising works is that if the 2000 euros target isn't reached in 80 days (starting 30th Oct) then the families will not get any of the money. So far 45% of the target has been raised. Around 6% of the amount raised goes towards administrative and bank fees of namlebee - the hosts of the fundraising.

Please give generously, thank you.

JazakAllah

"Its important to choose a strategy that doesn't end up diverting attention from the issue.. the other side wants nothing more than to divert attention from what the record shows, what the human rights record shows, what the UN record and so forth - they don't want to talk about that because once they start talking about that they loose. They'd rather talk about anti-Semitism, the Nazi holocaust - anything accept Israel and Palestine. With that in mind you have to be careful that you don't embark on a tactic which is going to end up diverting people from Israel-Palestine.. You don't' want to choose grey areas, you always want to choose black and white areas where there is no room for discussion, where there is no room for debate. This is black and white: World Court decision [wall and settlements illegal] 14 to 1. Human rights issues - Amnesty says Israel tortures, Human Rights Watch says Israel tortures, B'Tselem says Israel tortures, everyone says it - its black and white. And the other side has to end up with some ridiculous proposition as Professor Dershowitz put it 'they're all lying'."
